Turmeric – A wonder spice
This wonderful spice is one of the most researched in the world. Tis means there is a deep understanding of its health benefits and there are plenty of them.
Curcumin is the active ingredient in Turmeric. It has Anti-inflammatory properties. This means it is effective in fighting rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, heart disease and many other chronic conditions. Consider it if you have eczema, sinus problems, rosacea and allergies. It is believed it reduces certain enzymes that can trigger inflammatory responses. It can be used on the skin to reduce psoriasis and can be used as an antiseptic for cuts and burns.
Turmeric works at reducing the risk of blood clots. It can prevent the build-up of plaque in the arteries. This will help in the battle against strokes and clot-related problems. It has also been shown to reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. So consider Turmeric for Heart health. Pain relief is another that Turmeric has shown to offer relief. Especially joint pain.
Studies have shown that people living in India in the over 70 age group have far lower rates of Alzheimer’s disease than those of the same age group in the USA. Many believe this difference is due to the high intake of Indian curries, which are made with turmeric. More research is showing turmeric’s ability to remove amyloid plaque build-up in the brain. This has been identified as putting people at risk for developing the Alzheimer’s.
Cancer – Studies are looking positive in using Turmeric the fight against cancer. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
There are no known safety concerns with taking Turmeric. However if you have a salicylate intolerance you would not take it. It is beneficial in cooking however heat can destroy much of its therapeutic properties. This is why taking a supplement is often the best way to be certain you are getting a sufficient dose for it to be therapeutic
